2019 High School Engineering Design Challenge
The Professional Engineers of Ontario Lambton Charter (PEO), the Parks and Recreation Department, Sarnia Accessibility Advisory Committee and Age-Friendly Sarnia are partnering on an intergenerational engineering project where high school teams are coached through a design and pitch competition to develop an all-inclusive space within the City.
Sarnia-Lambton High School students will have a unique opportunity to discover how design and engineering can improve the lives of local residents by developing an accessible and age-friendly space for all.
Canatara Park Bandshell and immediate surrounding area has been chosen as the location in need of accessibility improvement, subject to Sarnia City Council approval at budget deliberations. PEO volunteers will work with the students to develop design concepts, prepare budgets and work through the engineering process in an effort to be the winning team who has developed the most inclusive space, within the parameters identified. Final presentations will be made to a panel of judges in March 2020.
Interested students can find more information and pre-register at www.peolambton.com.
The Challenge Kick-Off Meeting will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 7 in Council Chambers at City Hall where the challenge location will be revealed to the students and the problem solving can begin!
