The Planning & Building Department in collaboration with the Sarnia Heritage Committee have created a historical guided walking tour that describes stories from Sarnia’s past that occurred in the downtown area.
The guided tours will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday evenings on August 7, 14, and 21, 2019. They will begin at City Hall, 255 Christina Street North, at the fountain.
Tours will be approximately 75 minutes long. On-street parking will be available for tour participants. The tour is free to participate in, however a suggestion $5 donation to the Sarnia Heritage Committee will support the conservation of Sarnia’s built heritage.
Walking tour highlights include:
- The Lawrence House, Sarnia’s own haunted house
- The greatest crime story you’ve never heard about
- Sarnia’s history as a summer resort destination during the jazz age
- How people used to do business downtown
“We encourage residents to take part in this entertaining and educational walking tour featuring the historical elements of downtown Sarnia. The tour will walk at a slow pace; all are welcome,” explains Alan Shaw, Director of the Planning & Building Department.
