City of Sarnia, Strangway Centre

The Strangway Centre is a recreation centre for adults 20+ operated by the City of Sarnia, Parks and Recreation Department. We are located at 260 East St N near the beautiful Germain Park.

We offer a variety of programs including exercise classes, art, music and language courses, day trips, how to classes, recreational sports, and daily activities such as cards, carpet bowling and shuffleboard. We also operate a woodworking shop and a café.

Programming is available for members and non-members of the Centre but members pay less for programs. Membership is available to adults 50+. There are fees associated with activities which vary based on the activity. Daily Activities (drop-in) require a token which can be purchased for $2.25 (member) or $5.00 (non-member) for 2019. These activities are listed on page 23 of the Activity Guide. Pay as you go classes are $5.00 for members and $6.00 for non-members. Please refer to our Community Activities Guide for a full list of programs and fees.

Your can register for programs and memberships online or in person at the Strangway Centre or City Hall, 3rd Floor Parks and Recreation.

History of the Strangway Centre:
The Strangway Centre was established as an older adult centre by a generous $1 000 000 donation from William Strangway, as well as contributions from the Province, Ministry of Tourism, the City and other donors. William Strangway was a local business man who saw a need for a place for older adults to socialize.  In recent years we have opened up programming to adults 20+. The Centre opened on May 1, 1989. We are celebrating our 30th anniversary in 2019.
